Stud Book Number 2222 CP

Benson is a black Labrador dog, born 3rd November 2001, bred by Ann Britton. He is sired by Carpenny Corker, and his mum is Sh Ch Bowstones Martha Black.

A summary of some of Benson’s awards appears below. He qualified for Crufts 2003 when he was 6 months old (Judge Mr Terry Thorn), and re-qualified for Crufts 2004 at the age of 19 months, winning Special Yearling at the Cotswold & Wyevern Labrador Retriever Club Championship Show in July 2003 under Judge Mrs Rosemary Hewitt. Benson also qualified for Crufts from the Special Yearling class at Blackpool Championship Show under Judge Mr E Gill.

2003 was a super year for us with Benson with many special moments, rounded off at the end of the year by winning his class at Gundog of Wales Championship Show (Judge Mrs F Braddon), winning again at Midland Counties Championship Show (Judge Mrs E Jayes), and finally rounding things off by winning at LKA Championship Show (Judge Mrs P Harrison).

Benson attended Crufts in March 2004, taking part in the Post Graduate Dog class which had 26 exhibits. Benson was short-listed down to the final 7, which was a great achievement at only just over 2 years of age. Thanks to Judge Mr R Wiles. Following this Benson re-qualified for Crufts 2005 at WELKS under Judge Miss Mary Cox, and then gained his Stud Book Number at Paignton Championship Show, thus qualifying him for Crufts for life. Thanks to Judge Mr Richard Morris. Benson rounded off 2004 by winning Mid Limit at LKA Championship Show (Judge Mrs Lucy Kent), GUNDOG GROUP 2 at Oakengates & DCS Open Show (Mrs Zena Thorn Andrews).

2005 began very well, with some great Open Show Best of Breeds, including Leicestershire Gundog Society in a very good entry for Judge Ann Kilminster. At Crufts 2005, Benson again made it into the Judge’s final shortlist of 8 in his class, and at the Labrador Retriever Club of Wales Championship Show Benson was placed 1st in his class. Benson continued to be highly placed at Championship Shows, being 2nd in his class at Southern Counties 2005 to the CC and BOB winner, and 1st at East of England under Judge Mr Tom Grant.  Benson was unbeaten at Open Shows in the breed between November 2004 and July 2005.

2006 started well for Benson with some super Best of Breeds at Open Show level, and also 2nd in the Mid-Limit class at the Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club Championship Show under Judge Mrs Rosemary Hewitt in what was an excellent entry.  Benson continued 2006 with further good results, including 2nd Mid-Limit at Blackpool Championship Show under Judge Mrs Erica Jayes (Sandylands) and 2nd Open Dog at Paignton Championship Show under Judge Mr Moray Armstrong, plus several other Championship Show placings in the first three in Limit and Open classes. We are thrilled to announce that Benson gained his Show Certificate of Merit on 26th November 2006, having been awarded GUNDOG GROUP 3 at Sedgley & Gornal Open Show and GUNDOG GROUP 4 the following day at Walsall & District Kennel Association Open Show.

2007 continued where 2006 ended, with some super results for Benson. On 19th May 2007 Benson totally thrilled us by winning the GUNDOG GROUP and BEST IN SHOW at Redditch & District Canine Society Open Show under Judge Mrs Howes (Medogold). On 30th May 2007 at Taunton & District Canine Association Premier Open Show, Benson again won the GUNDOG GROUP.  What a wonderful two weeks! On 22nd June 2007, Benson won the Open Dog class at Blackpool Championship Show under Judge Mr Keith Young (Pyngold), continuing a wonderful run of results. Benson’s last Open Show of 2007 resulted in Best of Breed and subsequently GUNDOG GROUP 2 under Judge Mr Jeff Luscott (Jalus) at Stourbridge & District Canine Society Open Show.

2008 started very well indeed. At Whitchurch (Shropshire) & District Canine Society on 6th January, Benson was Best of Breed and subsequently was selected for the final 7 dogs for the BIS Line-up by Judge Mr Andrew Brace (Tragband), to whom we offer our thanks for such an exciting day. At Chippenham & District Canine Society on 6th April,  Benson had another very good day, being awarded Best of Breed and then on to GUNDOG GROUP 2  under Judge Mr L Cox (Vanitonia). Benson has also been doing very well at Championship Shows, being consistently highly placed in all of the Open Dog classes he has competed in. As 2008 draws to a close we cannot believe that our beautiful boy is now a veteran, having celebrated his 7th birthday on 3rd November, and he ended the year in style winning Best of Breed at Stourbridge & District Canine Society Open Show under Judge Mrs Louise Hill (Daleabbey). We look forward to a new chapter unfolding in 2009.

Well, what a start to 2009! On 3rd January, Benson attended The West of England Labrador Retriever Club Open Show at Woolavington, Somerset, where Judge Mrs Sue Marskell (Berolee) awarded him BEST VETERAN DOG and RESERVE BEST DOG IN SHOW. What a marvellous day, and sincerest thanks to all concerned. The following weekend, on Sunday 11th January, Benson attended Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club Open Show, where he once again was awarded BEST VETERAN DOG under Judge Mrs Amanda Deane (Tanronens). A super start to the New Year. Benson has also been highly placed at Manchester Championship Show, Kent Surrey & Sussex Labrador Retriever Club Championship Show and Birmingham National Championship Show in the first few months of 2009. On 23rd May 2009 Benson attended Bath Championship Show, where Judge Mr C McKay awarded him 1st place and BEST VETERAN DOG, and very shortly afterwards at Southern Counties Championship Show on 5th June Benson was once again awarded 1st place and  BEST VETERAN DOG, this time under Judge Mrs Einir W Matulla. The good times continued for Benson on 27th June at Blackpool Championship Show when Judge Mrs C E Cartledge also placed him 1st and BEST VETERAN DOG. We enjoyed a wonderful day on 12th August when Benson was awarded BEST VETERAN IN BREED at The United Retriever Club Championship Show by Judge Mr F Whyte. Benson was out of coat for the remaining summer months of 2009, but what a return to the ring we had on the weekend of 14th & 15th November; on Saturday 14th Benson attended The Labrador Retriever Club of Wales Breed Open Show where Judge Mr David Foulds awarded him BEST VETERAN IN SHOW, BEST DOG & RESERVE BEST IN SHOW. The following day at Blackburn & District Canine Association Judge Mr Joe Smith (Mowgli) awarded  Benson Best of Breed and subsequently GUNDOG GROUP 1. A wonderful weekend for our now 8 year old special boy.

At Limited Shows Benson has also enjoyed much success. On 12th June 2005 Benson was awarded RESERVE BEST IN SHOW at Chepstow & District Canine Society Members Limited Show under Judge Mr David Foulds. On 30th September 2006, Judge Mrs Ferelith Somerfield awarded Benson a further RESERVE BEST IN SHOW, this time at Bromsgrove & District Canine Society Members Limited Show. We are thrilled to say that at Northfield & North Worcs Canine Society Members Limited Show on 17th February 2007, Judge Mrs Jane Heath awarded Benson BEST IN SHOW. This was followed by  RESERVE BEST IN SHOW on 11th April 2007 at Sedgley & Gornal Canine Association Members Limited Show under Judge Mr Frank Kane. Benson ended 2007 by being awarded BEST IN SHOW  at Ludlow & District Kennel Association Members Limited Show under Judge Mr Ian Blackshaw. The year of 2008 saw Benson become a veteran, and he ended this year by winning BEST VETERAN IN SHOW at Leominster & District Canine Society Members Limited Show under Judge Mrs Jinty Gill-Davis (Rosecourt) on 28th December. Benson started 2009 just as he ended 2008, winning BEST VETERAN IN SHOW at Bromsgrove & District Canine Society Limited Show on 27th May under Judge Mr Paul Wilkinson.

In addition, Benson has had a remarkable career at Companion Dog Shows, having been awarded 1 BEST PUPPY IN SHOW, 10 BEST IN SHOW, 7 RESERVE BEST IN SHOW and 1 BEST VETERAN IN SHOW awards.

A huge thank you to all concerned, especially Ann Britton for breeding this handsome and loving dog and allowing us the privilege of adding him to our family.
